MADRID, Sep. 23 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Haitian Foreign Minister, Jean Victor Genesus, thanked the “strong and courageous gesture” of the President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, in apologizing for the involvement of Colombian mercenaries in the assassination of former Haitian President Jovenel Moise in July 2021.

The Haitian diplomatic representative thus referred to the words of Petro, who on Wednesday reported on his Twitter social network profile that, during a meeting on the margins of the UN General Assembly in New York, he had apologized to Haiti for that event.

For his part, the former prime minister with Moise, Claude Joseph, has valued Petro’s words, although he considers that “it is not enough” and has requested the “full cooperation” of Bogota in the investigations.

“Haiti needs the full cooperation of your government to help us find the intellectual author of the assassination of President Mosie. Who financed them? How did they get the money?” The former prime minister also launched on Twitter.

On July 7, 2021, several mercenaries broke into the Haitian presidential residence, taking the life of President Moise and seriously injuring his wife.

Petro’s apology message comes more than a year after it became known that a large part of those guilty of the Haitian leader’s murder were Colombian mercenaries, already detained by the authorities of the Caribbean country.
