Google Pixel 7 and 7 Pro remain photography flagships and add long-lasting battery life

Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro – EUROPE PRESS

Google presented its latest family of ‘smartphones’ at the beginning of last October, made up of the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro, two models that debuted their new Tensor G2 processor and that stand out for their recycled aluminum design.

Then, the company also unveiled its first ‘smartwatch’, Pixel Watch, a device that has not yet been marketed in Spain. The mobiles, on the other hand, are available for purchase in various colors (lime green, snow and obsidian) and from 649 euros in the case of the standard model.

The most advanced model, Pixel 7 Pro, changes this shade of green to lichen green and can be purchased from 899 euros in its most basic configuration, with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage.

At Portaltic we have had the opportunity to test both models, which have a very similar design, although they are clearly different at a glance. Among other things, because of its size. Pixel 7 has a 6.3-inch FHD+ (1080 x 2400) OLED panel, with a 90Hz refresh rate and Gorilla Glass Victus coverage. In addition, it reaches a brightness of up to 1400 nits.

Unlike the more advanced model, Pixel 7 has thicker borders, which reduces the actual size of the usable space. Pixel 7 Pro, by contrast, features a 6.7-inch LTPO QHD+ (1440 x 3120) OLED display, clocked at up to 120Hz and achieves up to 1500 nits of brightness.

In addition to the fact that the screen is larger, which makes it difficult to grip the device, since the Pixel 7 fits better in the hand (and weighs 197 grams, compared to 212 grams for the Pro model), it has curved edges.

Along with its size, one of the big differences is the back, where the cameras are located, which are framed in a recycled aluminum bar and in a horizontal format. In the case of the Pixel 7, only two lenses and the flash are introduced, while the Pixel 7 Pro adds a 5x dedicated 48-megapixel (MP) telephoto lens, with a 30x high-resolution zoom function.

The camera section is, without a doubt, one of the main attractions of this series. Pixel 7 Pro and Pixel 7 share the same selfie camera, which is 10.8 MP and an optic with an f/2.2 aperture value. In addition, they allow fixed focus and offer a field of view of 92.8 degrees.

The Macro Focus is added as a novelty in the most advanced device, which allows capturing photographs with great sharpness at a very short distance between the object and the lens, therefore offering a high level of detail.

The main camera already does present differences, although both devices still have a 50 MP stabilized sensor, capable of proposing a great dynamic range. The camera offers very bright photos, an improvement possible thanks to its Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology that supports the new generation of its processor.

It’s also imaging technologies that achieve accurate skin tones, even in low light conditions. The combination of Real Tone and Night Sight reduce out-of-focus areas of the image.

The ‘selfie’ camera of these mobiles is not far behind either, since it includes a feature called Assisted Framing. Thanks to it, users with vision problems can take framed photos using the mobile’s instructions. This emits them either by vibration or by voice.

Another of the strengths of this series is its intelligent battery -5000 mAh for the Pro model and 4355 mAh for the standard–, which can last more than 24 hours if used (up to two days if it is only kept on) and have support 30W fast charge. Despite this, it takes longer than expected, as does its 20W wireless charging, which is slow.

In any case, they are mobile phones that last long enough if they are used for daily tasks, such as checking email or using social networks. However, if the brightness of the screen is increased or handled with video games, it is considerably reduced.

Pixel 7 Pro, like any other high-end mobile, gets especially hot when used, but thanks to Tensor G2 the temperature is reduced in basic actions, as long as video games with high-quality graphics are not running.

If in doubt between the two devices, it is advisable to opt for the Pixel 7, not only because of the price, but also because its technical characteristics are practically similar to that of the most advanced model, except for the telephoto lens.

Both work with Android 13, have support for 5G, WiFi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3 and NFC and have both stereo speakers and three microphones, as well as a spatial audio system and another that reduces noise in calls.
