Gladiator Sequel Loses Barry Keoghan, Moon Knight’s May Takes Over

Ridley Scott’s upcoming Gladiator sequel has lost Barry Keoghan as he rounds out its cast, with Moon Knight’s May Kalamavi among the latest stars to head to the Colosseum.

Keogan was originally in negotiations to play the Roman emperor Geta, who reigned from 209 to 211. Deadline, scheduling conflicts reportedly forced him to drop out of the project. White Lotus actor Fred Hechinger is now said to be in talks to take on the role.

The movie also adds Moon Knight’s past May to the mix. She played Laila El-Fawley opposite Oscar Isaac before becoming Scarlet Scarab in the MCU show. It is not yet known which character she will play in Gladiator 2, but her character is said to be important.

Other recently announced additions include Lear Ross, Peter Mensah, Matt Lucas and Derek Jacobi, who will reprise his role as Gracchus from the original film. They join previously announced actors Paul Mezcal and Denzel Washington and returning star Connie Nielsen.

Stranger Things season 4 newcomer Joseph Quinn is in talks to join The Last of Us and The Mandalorian star Pedro Pascal in the sequel to Emperor Caracalla. Details about his character and the plot of the sequel are being kept under wraps.
