The Consumer Price Index (CPI) in France stood at 5.6% year-on-year last September, which represents a decrease of three tenths compared to the 5.9% rise in prices observed in August, according to the data published by the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (Insee).
The moderation of the rise in inflation in September responds to the slowdown observed in energy prices, which increased by 17.8%, compared to the annual 22.7% registered in August, and, to a lesser extent, the prices of services, whose increase became 3.2%, compared to 3.9% the previous month.
However, the Insee highlighted that the price of manufactured products accelerated its rise to 3.6% from 3.5%, while food became more expensive by 9.9%, substantially above the 7.9% of the month previous.
In a monthly rate, prices fell by 0.5% in September, after having increased by half a percentage point in the month of August.
On its side, the harmonized inflation rate, used by Eurostat in its statistics, moderated in September to 6.2% from the 6.6% registered in August. In monthly figures, the harmonized CPI fell by 0.5%, after having increased half a percentage point the previous month.
