The Government of France has called not to be distracted by “the multiplication of information manipulations” after the accusations of the Malian military junta, which in a letter to the UN Security Council accused the French troops of collaborating with terrorist groups.
A spokesman for the French Foreign Ministry has defended Paris’s commitment to the fight against terrorism in the Sahel and, without directly assessing the letter from the Government of Mali, has stated that the manipulations “must not divert, in any way, attention to the worsening security and humanitarian situation”.
Likewise, he has defended the “total transparency” with which the end of the ‘Barkhane’ mission was developed, which on Monday saw its last soldier leave Mali. This withdrawal has come after France’s differences with the junta that has governed Mali since May 2021.
Mali’s Foreign Minister, Abdoulaye Diop, called in his letter to the Security Council for an urgent meeting of this executive body, accusing Paris of participating in “serious acts that can undermine international peace and security.”
