Flick: “It’s our fault, not Spain’s”

The German coach Hansi Flick has assumed all the “blame” for the elimination of the ‘Mannschaft’ from the World Cup in Qatar, despite the fact that another result in the match between Spain and Japan could have kept them alive, and has assured that it looks with strength to continue leading the German team.

“Everything is our fault,” he answered when asked if he was angry with ‘la Roja’. “I am convinced that we had solutions, we had many chances against Spain in the first half, also against Japan, we should have taken advantage of those chances. We would be in a different situation if we had. It annoys me that we made a lot of mistakes,” he added.

The German coach, who confessed that the disappointment in the dressing room is “enormous”, explained that they will have to look for solutions “quickly”, after falling in the group stage for the second consecutive World Cup. “I think German football needs to do things differently in the future,” he warned.

“For many years we have talked about new goalkeepers, new wingers… What has always been good in German football is that we have always defended well. We need that strength, those basic things,” he insisted.

On the other hand, Flick assured that he sees himself qualified to continue leading the Teutonic team and take it to Euro 2024 in Germany. “For my part, yes, I enjoy it. We have a good team, good players come. But it doesn’t depend on me,” he said.
