Twitter employees who have lost their jobs will receive a “compensation” of three months of their salary after the mass dismissal that occurred this Friday in the company and ordered by its new owner, the South African tycoon Elon Musk.

This has been announced by the billionaire himself in a message on the social network, ensuring that a drastic reduction in the workforce has been carried out because “there was no other option”.

“Everyone who has been laid off has been offered three months severance pay, which is 50 percent more than is legally required,” Musk said.

“With regard to the reduction of Twitter’s workforce, unfortunately there is no other option when the company is losing more than four million dollars (a similar figure in euros) per day,” he added, assuring his conditions are better than those required. by law in the United States.

However, Musk will face a lawsuit from several former Twitter workers who consider that the dismissal of the company is inappropriate since it would have violated federal and state laws for not giving at least 60 days notice.

The suit was filed in a San Francisco court by five workers, one of whom was fired, according to the brief, on Tuesday, just two days before Musk announced to thousands of them via email that as of this Friday the workforce, which currently consists of 7,500 people, would be drastically reduced.

On Thursday afternoon, Twitter closed its offices and suspended access to the company’s ID cards and work computers “to help ensure the security of every employee, as well as Twitter’s systems and customer data.” “.

In this way, thousands of employees have known that their future was no longer in the company when they tried to access their computers provided by the social network and in which an error message appeared.

In addition, during the morning of this Friday, the workers who have been fired have been notified through their personal email, while those who have remained in the company have known it through their company emails, generating uncertainty throughout the night to company employees.

“Team, in an effort to put Twitter on a healthy path, we will go through the difficult process of reducing our global workforce on Friday,” the company explained in a notification sent to Twitter workers.

The billionaire has eliminated half of the Twitter workforce, thus complying with plans to cut the costs of the social media platform that he acquired for 44,000 million dollars (a similar figure in euros), according to experts consulted by the Bloomberg agency.
