Esquerra Republicana (ERC) has demanded this Friday in Congress to extend free commuter and medium-distance train trips to regular bus trips that are the responsibility of the General State Administration.
This is one of the proposals transferred by this formation in a non-law proposal registered in the Lower House, and collected by Europa Press, in which it warns of the viability risks of this sector, which “aggravates and deepens” its exclusion in the gratuity promoted by the Executive for railway services.
ERC argues that there are rural or more isolated areas without a nearby train station, whose mobility depends on the permanence of these lines or the private vehicle, which it asks to discourage with “efficient connections” and end the blockade on the renewal of line contracts , some of them expired for more than eight years.
For this reason, in addition to free multi-trip tickets – for more than two trips, excluding the return ticket -, the ERC also asks for criteria of social profitability, territorial equity and accessibility in the new map of bus concessions, so that economic profitability is not the main reason for its design.
