The worsening Naruhito of Japan and the president of South Korea, Yoon Suk Yeol, will attend the state funeral that will take place on September 19 in tribute to the late Queen of England, Elizabeth II, which shows the symbolic importance of the moment as well in Asia.
In Japan, emperors do not usually attend funerals and, in fact, Akihito was the first to do so in 1993, when King Baudouin of Belgium died. The state funeral of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, scheduled for the 27th, is expected to be attended by the crown prince, Fumihito.
However, given the historical importance of Elizabeth II, the Japanese Royal House anticipates that the delegation that will go to Westminster Abbey on September 19 will be headed by the emperor, according to sources quoted by the Kiodo news agency. If his health allows it, it is not ruled out that Empress Masako will attend.
For its part, the Presidency of South Korea has also confirmed this Sunday the intention of the president, Yoon Suk Yeol, to attend the funeral in memory of Elizabeth II, who died on Thursday at her residence in Balmoral (Scotland), reports the Yonhap agency .
