Two weeks after being eliminated in the round of 16 at Wimbledon against the Italian Yannick Sinner, the Murcian returned to action on the German clay where he started as first seed and where his first rival was a player who until 2021 played under Spanish nationality.

And this one, invited by the organizers, showed enough resistance and was able to put up a fight during the almost two and a half hours that the match lasted, except in the second set, the only one in which the one from El Palmar was able to clearly command.
