Brothers Edwin and Alexis Diaz meet again in New York

Pitching brothers Edwin and Alexis Diaz met again Tuesday at Citi Field in New York as they exchanged lineup cards with umpires prior to the game between the Reds and Mets.

It is the first time in the history of the Majors that two pitching brothers from the yard arrive and pitch in the Major Leagues. Last May, they entered the books by becoming the third pair of pitching brothers to save a game in the same day.

Edwin made his debut with the Seattle Mariners in 2016 while Alexis had his first coffee at Circo Grande this year.

The Naguabeños exchanged cards for the first time on July 5 in the series between the two ninths in Cincinnati. On that occasion, Alexis did not play as he was placed on the disabled list with an arm injury.

It is very likely that this time the two will go out to pitch in the same game. The Diaz family made the trip to Cincinnati that time and on Tuesday they were back in the stands, this time at Citi Field, wearing matching jerseys with the names of both teams.

Edwin is having his best season since winning the American League Reliever of the Year award in 2018 with the Mariners. In 2022, he has 26 saves with a 1.39 ERA in 45 games and was selected to his second All-Star game. Alexis, for his part, has recorded a good debut to date with a 1.94 ERA in 41.2 innings with four saves in 40 games.

The Mets lead the NL East with a 71-39 record, while the Reds are second from last in the Central Division at 44-64.
