Boy found in Florida alligator’s mouth was taken to lake by his father, police say

(CNN) — A missing Florida boy found dead in the mouth of an alligator last week was pushed into the lake by his father, who is also accused of the boy’s mother’s murder, according to St. Petersburg.

Thomas Mosley, 21, faces two counts of murder, according to the documents.

“Due to the extremely serious allegations surrounding these tragic deaths, our investigation is currently focused on gathering information about the facts and circumstances of the case, as well as our client’s state of mind,” said Sara Mollo, spokesperson for the Ombudsman. Public of the Sixth Judicial Circuit, in a statement.

Mosley allegedly “thrown or left” his 2-year-old son, Taylen, in a lake, causing “fatal injuries” that resulted in the boy’s death, according to one of the affidavits.

Taylen was reported missing after her mother, 20-year-old Pashun Jeffery, was found dead in her apartment last Thursday with multiple stab wounds, police previously reported.

The night before Jeffery was found, Mosley allegedly went to his mother’s house with “serious lacerations to both hands and arms consistent with slipping injuries from a knife attack” and was admitted to a hospital, according to an affidavit.

On Thursday, Jeffery’s family went to check on him and allegedly observed blood on the sidewalk outside his apartment, according to the affidavit. They found Jeffery inside it dead with “apparent cuts and stab wounds from 100 wounds,” according to the document.

“A bloody fingerprint on a bottle of cleaning product that had been intentionally placed under a bed at the crime scene identified (Mosley),” the affidavit reads. “A bloody shoe print with a ‘Gucci’ emblem was located on the bathroom floor where the victim was found,” the statement continued.

The 2-year-old boy was not at the crime scene, so the authorities began their search.

The next day, an alligator was seen in Dell Homes Park, a few miles from where Jeffery was found dead, with an object in its mouth, according to police. The agents shot the reptile once and it dropped the object.

Deputies were able to recover what they discovered to be Taylen’s body, which was intact, according to police. The alligator was euthanized, an affidavit added.

Mosley was booked into the Pinellas County Jail last Friday, according to the sheriff’s office website. A bail hearing is scheduled to be held on April 11.

CNN contacted the State’s Attorney’s Office, which had no comment.
