The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, on Thursday urged critics of the general rise in prices to explain the causes of inflation in a way that they are “supported by facts”

“The claims must be supported by facts. Our ban on oil in Russia is not the reason for the price increase: since the ban, the price has been falling,” Borrell said on his Twitter account.

The message has been accompanied by a graph showing that the price of a barrel of oil is currently at levels similar to those before the start of the war.

The High Representative of the Union has clarified that he does not believe that there is no cause-effect relationship, although he has maintained that the graph “speaks for itself”.
