Boric values the “democratic nature” of the new Constitution and insinuates that it has been done “behind open doors”

Chilean President Gabriel Boric – PRESIDENCY OF CHILE

The president of Chile, Gabriel Boric, has positively valued the “democratic nature” of the constitutional process that has ended with the draft of a new Constitution, and has recalled that it has been carried out behind open doors and not “from committees where only a few few”.

From Peñalolen, a commune in the south of Santiago de Chile, Boric has attended the launch of an information campaign on the new constitutional text, insinuating that, unlike the previous Constitution, the new one has been carried out “with the participation of the communes , in neighborhoods and in towns”.

“Because Chile solves its problems with more democracy, not less, and that is something we are deeply proud of. And it does so not from closed-door meetings, not from committees where only a few enter, but with participation in communes, in neighborhoods and in towns,” the Chilean president asserted during a press conference.

On the other hand, the president of Chile has detailed the intention of his Executive to deliver a copy of the Constitution, either digital or physical, to all citizens of the country. In this way, according to Boric, the goal is for “all Chilean men and women to vote conscientiously on September 4.”

“We are concerned that all Chilean men and women can have access to the text. Either digitally or through physical delivery of the text (…) Because we have the conviction and the duty that all Chilean men and women the next 4 of September, vote conscientiously, vote informed, be part of the history we are making”, added the Chilean president.

Likewise, Boric has assured that both alternatives of the vote to the constitutional text, both its approval and its rejection “are legitimate”, and has stressed that the important thing is that “they are based on knowing the text”.

“I invite all of us to face together a debate with a high vision. Let’s not allow lies to prevail. Here we have heard many times things that have nothing to do with reality. That is why it is important that people know the text, which can compare with what is today and the proposal,” said the Chilean head of state.

“In that we are. We are happy, we are motivated, realizing what this process means for the history of Chile”, he added.
