Body recovered from vehicle that fell into Lahawe River: Bridgewater Police

Members of the Bridgewater Police Service and the RCMP Underwater Rescue Team recovered a body from a vehicle that had fallen into the LaHave River near the old Bridgewater Harbor on the southern edge of the community this afternoon.

At this stage of the investigation, police say they cannot provide additional information or speculate on the cause of death of the person inside the vehicle. The body will be turned over to the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner tonight for an autopsy.

Bridgewater police and fire crews were called to a vehicle submerged in the waters of the LaHave River near the south end of the harbor pier on Sunday.

In a Bridgewater police news release Tuesday, officers learned the vehicle left the pier, however it was not known if anyone was in the vehicle at the time.

“It was later determined that specialized underwater rescue personnel were required to assist Bridgewater Police in recovering the vehicle,” the statement read.

Submarine rescue teams from Nova Scotia and New Brunswick were on the scene Tuesday.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Bridgewater Police Department at 902-543-2464.
