At least five dead and 22 injured after an intercity bus overturned in Turkey

A traffic accident this morning caused the death of five people, including a baby, while 22 were injured after an intercity bus overturned on the roads of the city of Silvan, in the Turkish district of Diyarbakir, in the southeast of the country.

The driver has lost control of the vehicle at kilometer 65 of the Silvan highway, which has resulted in the overturning of the bus that was chartered with passengers at that time, according to the Turkish newspaper ‘Star’.

The victims of the accident have been transferred to different hospitals in the city of Silvan and two of them remain in serious condition.

The vehicle belongs to the Yeni Diyarbakir company and so far the identity of the driver is unknown, who has been arrested along with the substitute driver and an assistant.

Following the notification of the accident, the emergency services have sent numerous teams of medical and rescue teams, including the units of the National Medical Rescue Team (UMKE) and the Presidency for Emergency and Disaster Management of the Ministry of Interior of Turkey (AFAD), as shared by the Turkish channel TRT Harber.
