At least eight people have been found dead this Friday in the Rio Grande, which separates Mexico from the US state of Texas, after being swept away by strong water currents, according to local authorities.
US and Mexican border agents have rescued eight bodies and 53 people who were trying to swim from Mexico to the United States on Thursday afternoon, according to the newspaper ‘Zocalo’.
Of the eight deceased migrants, two have been found by Mexican authorities, while the other six have been located by the Customs and Border Protection Office (CBP) in the Eagle Pass territory.
On the other hand, the Mexican Border Patrol has also detained 39 migrants as part of a ransom, as reported by the Super Chanel 12 chain.
CBP agents continue to search for other possible victims in the Rio Grande.
The number of people killed during 2022 in the attempt to cross the river that separates Mexico from the United States has risen to 226, according to the aforementioned television.
