The first laptop ASUS with flexible screen, the Zenbook 17 Fold OLEDwill finally go on sale in Spain in the last quarter of this year at a price of 3,499 US dollars (about 3,500 euros at current exchange rates).

The Taiwan-based company presented this machine at the beginning of the year within the framework of CES 2022, although the germ of the project was born in 2019. Now, Asus has released new details, among which its launch framework stands out, as it has shared at the IFA fair in Berlin.

In the first place, the manager of the Taiwanese Consumer Product in the peninsular territory, Shechem Gonzalezhas stressed that this new team is aimed at those looking for a “Ultraportable state-of-the-art device.” Its main use is oriented to office work, multitasking and mobility.

This equipment has a 12.5-inch 2.5K OLED touch panel in shell mode and 17.3-inch in tablet format. The screen also offers support for the DCI P3 color spectrum, refresh rates of 90Hz and 0.2 milliseconds (ms) of response.

Asus has highlighted, within the OLED technology that the panel incorporates, the pixel refinement technique that the Taiwanese company has developed together with Samsung. This method allows you to algorithmically adjust the color of those aged pixels so that they show their original color and extend their useful life.

UP TO SIX DIFFERENT MODES OF USE

The Zenbook 17 Fold OLED supports up to six different modes, depending on your use. One of them is the laptop without a physical keyboard, which can also be attached to the computer by means of a magnetic system. Another, the extended one with the machine in shell mode and the physical keyboard.

Also allows desktop mode, with the panel in its full extension on a base and the Bluetooth keyboard; the ‘tablet’ with the 17.3-inch screen but without a keyboard; and the reader, which offers the user two full 12.5-inch panels with an aspect ratio of 3:2.

To offer this flexibility of use, Asus has ensured that the hinge of this equipment is guaranteed at least 30,000 bending cycles. A figure that contrasts with the 10,000 that laptops usually have according to the data provided by the company.

At the software level, the company has also highlighted the integration of ScreenXpert 3 in this team. It is a program from which the user can manage the design of his windows, such as landscape or portrait, to adjust to his needs at all times.

THE AI, AT THE SERVICE OF YOUR CAMERA AND SOUND

In the audiovisual section, the Zenbook 17 Fold OLED has a four-speaker system harman kardon. In addition, it has noise cancellation by Artificial Intelligence (AI) and is compatible with both Dolby Atmos as with Dolby Vision.

For professional use, this equipment integrates a 5 megapixel (MP) camera with AI that offers, in turn, four functionalities for video calls: face tracking, background blur effect, light correction and eye contact.

Asus has also highlighted the implementation of an infrared (IR) camera in this device that, together with different technologies, enable the camera sensor for lightning fast facial loginamong other features.

I7 PROCESSORS AND TWO THUNDERBOLT 4 PORTS

Internally, Asus has equipped its new laptop with 12th Generation Intel Core i7-1250U processors, Intel Iris Xe graphics, 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM, and up to 1TB of Gen 4 SSD storage.

Regarding connectivity, the machine incorporates two Thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports with a bidirectional bandwidth of 40 gigabits per second (Gbps). It also has a jack port.

The new Asus is not only compatible with WiFi 6Ealso has WiFi stabilizer and technology SmartConnect which, depending on the location of the equipment, offers the user the most convenient connection.

The Zenbook 17 Fold OLED also supports the standard Bluetooth 5.2. In this sense, your keyboard opens the configuration with the F8 key, while the F9 and F10 keys serve as a direct link to the first and second devices connected in this way.

The back of the equipment is made of reflective glass. For its part, the design of the lower region, next to the ‘trackpad’, is made of leather to avoid fingerprints.

With a thickness of 31.9 millimeters (mm) when closed and 11.7mm when unfolded, this machine weighs 1.6 kilos. This figure rises to 1.99 kilos with the keyboard. All this is combined with a battery with 75 Wh and a charger, what is included65W compatible with any type of fast charge.

PRICE AND LAUNCH DATE

The Asus Zenbook 17 Fold OLED will go on sale in Spain in the last quarter of this year. Gonzalez assures that the company is “exerting pressure” so that the launch takes place in early November, just before the Christmas campaign.

The starting price of this new team is 3,499 dollars, about 3,500 euros at current exchange rates. However, Gonzalez does not rule out that he could go down to “psychological“2,999 euros” at some point.
