Apple becomes the only major manufacturer of mobile phones without folding: these are the models of the rest of the brands

Since the arrival of folding mobiles in 2019 by Samsung with the original Galaxy Fold, this format has been gaining popularity by leaps and bounds in recent times, although not everyone is convinced.

At its I/O event held this Wednesday, Google has become the latest brand to make a foray into the foldable market with its new Pixel Fold, with a slim design and applications adapted to the flexible screen.

He Pixel Fold It has an unexpected consequence: it makes Apple the only mobile manufacturer that has not launched or announced a foldable smartphone yet.

Apple has previously worked on folding devices but nothing indicates that it intends to launch a mobile with this format soon, since its development efforts are focused on the mixed reality viewer that, if the forecasts are met, it will finally announce this 2023.

This year there will be a ‘boom’ of folding mobile phones in Europe and sales will grow 100%, according to the European CEO of Honor

The folding market is expected to grow 50% this year and sell 21.4 million units, up from 14.2 million last year, according to analyst IDC. Not only this, but the forecasts for the future are that in the year 2027 48.1 million foldables will be sold and that the general market will be worth 42,000 million dollars.

Despite good forecasts, the truth is that the general mobile market sold 1,205.5 million units last year, so foldables barely represent 1.2% of all smartphones and even in the best forecasts it will not exceed 4% before 2027.

There are only 2 other brands that do not have foldable phones in their catalog at the moment, although none of the Apple entity: OnePlus, which already announced at MWC that it would launch its first folding at the end of 2023; and reallywhich at the moment has no official plans.

These are the rest of the brands and the foldable ones that have already been launched and that would make things difficult for Apple if it wants to enter the market in the future.

Samsung: Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip series

Huawei was one of the first brands to launch foldables after Samsung and this allows it to be the only one with 3 different folding shape formats for sale in Spain.

On the one hand, Mate X3, which has just been presented, has a conventional book-type format, although it is thinner than normal and is priced at 2,199 euros.

On the other hand, the previous model of the Chinese brand is also foldable, like a tablet, but it has the particularity, inherited from the first version, that it folds out and not in, so the hinge is on the outside. This is the case of the Mate Xs 2, which costs 1,999 euros.

And the third alternative is the one that makes up the P50 Pocket, Huawei’s first and so far only clamshell foldable, which the company announced as part of its high-end range last year for 1,599 euros.

Although it has announced the new Pixel Fold to great fanfare, the truth is that Google is still far from launching it worldwide since it only sells it in 4 markets: the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, and Japan. The rest of the countries will have to wait for later or future versions, something that is by no means rare in the product strategy of the American brand.

The Pixel Fold stands out for its 7.6-inch interior and main screen and another 5.8-inch exterior and secondary screen, as well as the company’s own high-end Tensor G2 chip.
