An inmate dies after a confrontation between inmates in an Iranian jail

An inmate in a jail in Iran has died during the day on Saturday after being hit with stones in a confrontation between prisoners in a jail in the city of Karaj, located 20 kilometers west of Tehran, the capital.

This has been detailed by the prosecutor of the province of Alborz, to Hossein Fazeli, in statements collected by the IRNA agency, detailing that the confrontation began in a wing for drug-related criminals.

Also, the Alborz prosecutor has reported that two of the prisoners, whose medical condition required hospital care, have been sent to a nearby hospital for treatment.

After the fight, the situation in the prison is calm and the prisoners in the drug room are communicating with their families, according to what the aforementioned agency has learned.

The standoff comes months after a fire that killed eight inmates at Tehran’s Evin prison, where political activists and journalists are being held, including those detained in protests following the death of Mahsa Amini.
