A lioness would be loose on the streets of southern Berlin, as reported by the German Police. The authorities urge residents not to go out into the streets and to keep their pets indoors.

The Police have deployed an operation with helicopters and thermal imaging cameras with the help of firefighters to try to locate the loose animal.

Brandenburg state agents have warned residents of the Kleinmachnow, Teltow and Stahnsdorf districts to be on the lookout for a potentially dangerous animal, suspected to be a lioness. Subsequently the alert has been extended to the southern areas of Berlin.

It is not known where the animal comes from, since it is ruled out that it has escaped from a zoo. According to various media reports, two men saw the big cat running after a wild boar in the area of Stahnsdorfer Damm and Märkische Heide where they recorded it.

Police suspect that the lioness is in a wooded area.
