The Attorney General of the Republic (FGR) reported this Friday the link to the process of Alejandro del Valle, executive president of the Board of Directors of Interjet, the airline that stopped operating more than two years ago after its financial debacle. Del Valle was linked to the process for the probable commission of the crime of equalized tax fraud for not declaring almost 12 million pesos. The defendant will have to sign every month in the North prison and they will take away his passport so that he cannot leave the country during the investigations, for which a period of four months has been decreed. However, Del Valle lives in Houston, Texas, where he is also president of a Mexican business association with ties to the United States.

The Interjet crisis, until then the low-cost airline par excellence, originated in 2019. After a year of financial losses, hundreds of its employees went home and accusations of bad labor practices surfaced. Then added the problems with the treasury, the purchase of aircraft that are difficult to repair and the covid-19 pandemic, which ended up plunging the company into bankruptcy.

Its business model, based on offering cheap tickets and a complete service of free food, drinks and luggage checks to its users, stopped working. Five consecutive months of poor financial results in 2019, cancellation of dozens of flights after the march of the workers and an anonymous letter accusing the company of forcing them to endure abusive conditions.

After the purchase, Del Valle learned that the company had a tax debt of 29,000 million pesos, said the source present at the meeting. Interjet had owed money to the Treasury since 2013 and had net losses of more than 2,700 million pesos. He promised the Aleman family to inject 150 million dollars, but they never received that amount.

It is not the first time that Del Valle has been linked to the process. In May 2022, the president of the Board of Directors of Interjet was arrested for the crimes of family violence and aggravated sexual abuse, allegedly against his youngest son. The complaint was filed by her wife, who at first could only accuse him of the violence of which she was a victim and then, after presenting more evidence, managed to have her husband accused of child abduction and retention charges. . The authorities searched his home and proceeded to arrest him. However, after five months in pretrial detention, Del Valle was released from jail.
