Aida Victoria Merlano, the influencers and daughter of former congresswoman Aida Merlano, has added another legal problem this Tuesday. The Prosecutor’s Office has accused her of creating a fictitious company in 2019 to hide assets illegally acquired by her mother, today detained in Venezuela. This has been reported by W RADIO, after confirming the news with judicial sources and with the defendant’s lawyer. Merlano daughter now faces a possible sentence of between 6 and 10 years in prison.

Merlano mother is the ‘queen of deception’. Barranquillera, she was a congressman for the Conservative Party from 2014 to 2018, the year in which her luck changed. She was arrested after being elected senator, accused of having bought votes during the campaign, facts that she later accepted. She has already been convicted twice, with sentences upheld by the Supreme Court. The crimes include corruption of the voter, illegal possession of weapons and violation of electoral spending limits.

Mother and daughter starred in one of the biggest scandals in 2019. The former congresswoman escaped from justice during a visit to the dentist in the north of Bogota, with the help of Aida Victoria. For this reason, Merlano daughter already has a sentence of seven and a half years in prison: the court sentenced her last September for organizing the escape of her mother and using her brother, who was a minor. The former congresswoman is detained in Venezuela, where she escaped in 2019. Colombia has not been able to carry out her extradition because the Government of Ivan Duque had no relations with the neighboring country. Gustavo Petro’s administration has had to restart the process.

The influencers, meanwhile, has gained notoriety. The leak made his popularity grow beyond the Colombian Caribbean coast. She exploded in the rest of the country: she has more than three million followers on Instagram, where she shares feminist messages.

The Prosecutor’s Office considers that the company that influencers created with his father in 2019 he had no way of reaching a net worth of 3.2 billion pesos (around $663,000). It never worked out and he had no significant personal income or credit history. Finally, the accusing entity learned that the company received a donation of 2,900 million pesos (about $601,000) from the former representative.

The defendant is under house arrest after the conviction for helping her mother escape. She has appealed the sentence and is now preparing to face the new charge, which can land her in prison if she is proven. The dates for the preparatory hearings of the oral trial are not yet defined.
