    About 150 people injured by a magnitude 5.4 earthquake in northwestern Iran

    Magnitude 5.4 earthquake in northwestern Iran – USGS

    Around 150 people have been injured this Wednesday due to an earthquake of magnitude 5.4 on the open scale of Richter registered in the northwest of Iran, as confirmed by the authorities.

    The earthquake has especially shaken the city of Joi, in the province of Western Azerbaijan, with no information on fatalities at the moment, as reported by the Iranian news agency Mehr.

    The head of Crisis Management in Joi County, Salem Joyei, has highlighted that several people have been injured trying to leave their homes after the earthquake and has added that search and rescue teams are already working in the area.

    The United States Geological Survey (USGS) has detailed that the epicenter has been located about 8.5 kilometers from Joi and has stated that the hypocenter has been located about 15 kilometers deep.
