A Russian missile attack leaves at least three dead in Zaporizhia

At least three people were killed this morning in a Russian missile attack on an apartment building in the Ukrainian city of Zaporizhia, in the southeast of the country, the Ukrainian National Police reported today on its Facebook page.

“The enemy hit (with his) missile attacks in #Zaporizhia, killed people,” wrote the Ukrainian Police, which considers the Russian military offensive a new example of war crimes committed by the invading forces against civilians.

“Tonight, the military of the Russian Federation carried out another attack on the territory in the center of the (Zaporizhia) region. A rocket hit a multi-storey building, under the rubble were the residents of the apartments, who were sleeping peacefully. when it happened. At this moment, three deaths have been identified, six wounded have been hospitalized,” he said.

As a result of the attack on the five-story building, more than ten apartments between the second and fifth floors have been totally destroyed. The debris and the shock wave caused by the explosion also damaged several of the surrounding houses.

Rescue work continues throughout the day on Thursday

Rescuers, volunteers and emergency personnel are on the scene, while the police and other technicians “document the consequences of the war crime committed by the (Russian) occupiers, carry out a study of the area, collect physical evidence of military aggression”, Added the message from the Police.

Previously, the secretary of the Zaporizhia City Council, Anatoly Kurtev, and the State Emergency Service had reported the destruction of the building.

In Zaporizhia, in the southeast of Ukraine, is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe, currently controlled by the Russians and disconnected from the Ukrainian energy system.

Russia unilaterally annexed this Ukrainian region along with neighboring Kherson and Donetsk and Lungansk in the east of the country last September, despite which the Russian army has not managed to fully control any of the four.
