A four-year-old girl has died after being rescued on a boat with dozens of migrants on board in the Mediterranean Sea, as confirmed by the Greek Coast Guard, which has detailed that the boat was found west of the island of Crete and He has added that the operation resulted in more than 60 rescued.

The Greek Coast Guard has indicated in a statement published on its website that a total of 63 people were rescued by a ship that was in the area and has stated that the girl, who was rescued unconscious, was evacuated by air along with his mother to a hospital in Crete, where his death was confirmed.

Likewise, it has stated that the ship, with the flag of Antigua and Barbuda, would be in the area of ​​​​responsibility of Malta. At the moment there are no details about the state of health of the rest of the rescued and their nationalities have not transcended either.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) collects on its website that so far this year about 1,265 people have died or have been reported missing when trying to cross the Mediterranean Sea to reach European shores, a figure that in 2021 rose to 2,048, above the data for 2020 and 2019.
